What Fuel Economy Will Land Rover Get?

Range Rover vehicles come in different shapes and sizes, as well as different drivetrain options. This gives you a lot of options that allow you to get exactly the vehicle you want, but it does make it a little difficult sometimes to keep track of things like fuel economy, as it can vary by a lot from one model or drivetrain to another. This is more true of the Range Rover lineup than it is for the rest of the Land Rover lineup, because only Range Rover has two models that are offered with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. So we put together this guide to help.

Range Rover Evoque Fuel Economy

Range Rover Evoque
EngineHorsepower / TorqueFuel Economy (City / Highway / Combined)
P250 2.0L 4-Cylinder246 hp / 269 lb-ft20 / 27 / 22

The Evoque is the only Range Rover model where fuel economy is easy to keep track of. To make a city-sized Range Rover model that was still highly capable off-road, it was necessary not to waste an inch of space, so the Evoque is offered with a single, meticulously planned-for engine. Unsurprisingly, the Evoque has among the best non-hybrid fuel economy of any model from any of the Land Rover sub-brands. In addition to that, you get superb handling in all manner of environments, and a cabin that comes with the high level of luxury you expect from the Range Rover name.

Range Rover Velar Fuel Economy

Range Rover Velar
EngineHorsepower / TorqueFuel Economy (City / Highway / Combined)
P250 2.0L 4-Cylinder247 hp / 269 lb-ft22 / 26 / 23 MPG
P340 3.0L 6-Cylinder335 hp / 354 lb-ft19 / 25 / 21 MPG

The Range Rover Velar is bigger and has more available power than the Evoque, but is still very much a manageable size. Fuel economy is excellent too, not all that different from the Evoque. And thanks to the mild hybrid system that comes with the bigger six-cylinder engine, all of that extra power doesn’t come at the cost of poor fuel economy. The I6 drivetrain also combines turbocharging with supercharging to both significantly increase peak output and to make sure that boosted output is available across a wide power band. Properly equipped, the Velar can even tow up to 5,000 pounds, which is exceptional for an SUV of this size.

Range Rover Sport Fuel Economy

Range Rover Sport
EngineHorsepower / TorqueFuel Economy (City / Highway / Combined)
P360 3.0L 6-Cylinder355 hp / 369 lb-ft19 / 25 / 21 MPG
P400 3.0L 6-Cylinder395 hp / 406 lb-ft18 / 24 / 20 MPG
P440e Plug-In Hybrid434 hp / 406 lb-ft51 MPGe / 21 MPG Combined
P530 4.4L V8523 hp / 553 lb-ft16 / 21 / 18 MPG

The larger size of the Range Rover Sport makes for excellent versatility, so it just makes sense that it also comes with an extensive list of drivetrain options. The I6 engine comes in two states of tune, 355 horsepower in the SE trim and 395 horsepower in the Dynamic SE. The Dynamic SE is also available with the plug-in hybrid drivetrain or the 523-horsepower V8, both of which are also available in the Autobiography. The SV comes with an exclusive high-performance version of the V8 that makes 626 horsepower. Unsurprisingly, the plug-in hybrid drivetrain gets the best fuel economy, but it offers quite a bit of power to go with it. Opting for the higher state of tune for the I6 doesn’t change the fuel economy rating, and even the ratings for the two different versions of the V8 are surprisingly close.

P530 4.4L V8523 hp / 553 lb-ft16 / 21 / 18 MPG

We have now arrived at the full-size Range Rover. We should mention that we’re comparing these drivetrains when paired with the short wheelbase version, since there is no long wheelbase version of the SV. Some of the power outputs might be a bit different, and the base I6 Range Rover Sport isn’t available with the full-size model, but overall, the fuel economy numbers aren’t too different from the Range Rover Sport. This is especially true of the plug-in hybrid drivetrain, which ties with the plug-in hybrid version of the Range Rover Sport for the best fuel economy rating of any of the vehicles from any of the Land Rover brands.
